THE GOD OF MIGHT!
HE IS ´EL SHADDAI, ALMIGHTY GOD. HE HAS MILITARY PROWESS AS THE LORD OF HOSTS/ARMIES (YAHWEH-SABAOTH), A MIGHTY WARRIOR, AND THE LORD OUR BANNER (YAHWEH-NISSI). THESE ARE THE OFFENSIVE NAMES OF OUR CONQUERING GOD.
“Almighty God” (´El-Shaddai) The name appears as “´El Shaddai” (“Almighty God”) seven times, and standing alone as “Shaddai” (“the Almighty”) 41 times in the Old Testament and 9 times in the New Testament (as Greek pantokratōr; 2 Corinthians 6:18; Revelation 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7, 14; 19:15; and 21:22).
Shaddai (shadday)
“Almighty” is the way the early Greek Septuiagint translators of the Old Testament, understood it. They translated the Hebrew noun shadday with the Greek word pantokratōr — literally “he who holds sway over all things, the ruler of all (from pas, “all” + krateō, “to have power, be master of, rule”). They linked shadday with the verb shādad, “to destroy, overpower.” Shaddai would mean “He who destroys, over powers.” This is the traditional meaning adopted by most modern translations. Other possibilities are “Sufficient One” and “God of the Mountain” or “God of the Steppe.” The name “Almighty” from shādad means all mighty, all powerful, omnipotent.”
Mighty Warrior
“The LORD is a warrior; the L ORD is his name.” (Exodus 15:3, NRSV).
“Warrior” here is made up of two words, îsh, “man” and milḥāmā, “war, battle.” Several modern translations (NRSV, NIV, NASB, New Jerusalem Bible) render it as “warrior.” Others retain the more literal but less vivid phrase “man of war” (KJV, RSV).
When Jeremiah becomes fearful of those who ridicule him and want to destroy him for prophesying, he remembers the Lord who is by his side:
“But the L ORD is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.” (Jeremiah 20:11a, NIV)
The phrase “mighty warrior” (NIV), “dread warrior” (RSV), or “dread champion” (NASB) here consists of two words: gibbôr, “mighty, strong, valiant, mighty man … heroes or champions among the armed forces; and `ārīs, ” mighty, awe-inspiring, in great power, strong, terrible, violent,” “inspiring, terror-striking.”
“The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a warrior ( gibbôr) who gives victory” (Zephaniah 3:17, NRSV)
Finally, we see the wonderful image of God as a victorious king returning home from war, before whom the city gates are opened. This king is the gibbôr, the valiant warrior, the champion, the same as the LORD of hosts (Psalm 24:10)
“Who is this King of glory? The L ORD strong and mighty ( gibbôr), the L ORD mighty ( gibbôr) in battle.” (Psalm 24:8)
The battle is the Lord’s! Nevertheless, the soldiers of the physical army must also join the battle and fight alongside the Lord. Even though their land has been deeded to them as an inheritance, they must conquer it in battle (Exodus 23:27-33).
WAGING WAR WITH THE WORD – HOLDING ON TO FAITH AND A GOOD CONSCIENCE!
“Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience.” (1 Timothy 1:18-19; NIV)
70 DAY DECREE: Lord God, we present ourselves unto you a living sacrifice (Romans12:1). We acknowledge and declare that we are filled with the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:11). Your word tells us righteousness exalts a nation (Proverbs 14:34). We stand before you in the land you have given us, and we decree and release the righteousness of Christ into our territories, spheres of influence, our cities, states, and nation in order to bring healing, revival, awakening, and reformation to America. Father let your Spirit of righteousness be released and established in us, and in every place in which you have given us jurisdiction. Let your righteous Kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10)! Prepare the soil of this nation and realign us with Your righteousness! In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
